Passing of MWGM Jim Durham

It is with a heavy heart that we bring this news, Most Worshipful Jim Durham passed to the Grand Lodge on High yesterday morning.  He was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Florida in 2002, he was the Personal Representative to SGIG and Deputy of the Orient of Florida for the Valley of Pensacola, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Brethren, Due to the existing circumstances with the pandemic, the attendance to the Grand Master’s Official Visits will be limited to the members of the District in which the meeting will be held due to the capacity restrictions at the venues. It is VERY important that you please RSVP to the contact person on the invitation if you plan to attend due to seating arrangements and social distancing. Hopefully we can get back to normal in the near future. Until then stay safe and healthy. I would like to express that it is not mandatory for anyone to attend. If you feel unsafe or are running a temperature or have any underlying medical symptoms please DO NOT attend. These events are only to be attended by those that can attend safely and follow the safety guidelines as set by each of the areas in which the event is being held. Use of common sense is required at all of our events and masks will be required in most of the areas so please plan accordingly.

The following will also be attending in addition to the members in the local Districts: Elected Grand Lodge Officers and their Ladies; Grand Marshal and his Lady; Grand Chaplain and his Lady; Grand Historian and his Lady; Senior Grand Deacon and his Lady; and R•W• Donald W. Cowart (Candidate for Junior Grand Warden) and his Lady.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Thomas L. Turlington, Jr.

Grand Master

Statement on Statue

The attached official statement will be posted on our website later today.

As you know, events concerning the Pike statue took place on Friday, June 19, 2020.  I drafted the attached statement early on June 20, but intentionally waited a time with patience in the hope that tensions would level to some degree.  Any questions, concerns, suggestions or requests for response on this matter should be directed to my office.  No other staff member of this Council, unless specifically designated by me, is authorized to respond on this matter.

History is evaluated, written and judged by individuals based upon what is almost always an incomplete set of facts. For that reason, arguing any pro or con about Pike or any historical figure is an endeavor with a limited potential for success.  For that reason, I choose to focus on who we are today and where we must go.

You may post the attached or provide links to our website or distribute as you wish.

Thank you for your support of our Rite.

Illustrious Brother Hoover,

As the Grand Commander mentioned in the above video we are asking for you to support by including it on all your websites, social media pages and outgoing publications- both print and email.

The new website will serve as a guide for men who are interested in becoming Masons and act as a referral service matching interested men with the Grand Lodge in their area.

Below you will find a link to which is live and will be officially launched on March 1, 2020.

If you or your Orient or Valley staff need help with wording, art work, or with posting this information on your various websites and  social media pages, simply reply to this email and I will make sure someone helps you as quickly as possible.
